Gosh, that took some time didn't it? My bad, I hope I'll be able to post much more often from now on. Let's cut to the chase, shall we? I wanted to show You my take on Commander Shadowsun. The figurine itself is pretty neat for a finecast "remake".
Shadowsun's XV22 prototype battlesuit was a satisfying challenge. Because of it's rather small size and the amount of details I mostly used nylon Mag-Pol brushes size 0 and 1. This time (although it is not my usual choice) Vallejo Black aerosol primer served as the base. I must say I was happy with the effect, the surface was evenly covered and had a semi-smooth texture. Next came the (now unavailable) Citadel scab red as the primary layer and the figurine was covered with a thin layer of Citadel nuln oil wash. As the next step, I started to highlight some places with scab red and finished the edges with the (again, now unavailable) Citadel blood red.
I decided to choose the head model without the helmet, simply because I hoped that the contrast of Tau's blue skin will add some dynamics to the color composition (plus, the hair looks awesome). And so, as for all my fish-heads, I used Citadel hoeth blue as the base color, added some aforementioned wash, and a little bit of hoeth mixed with Citadel skull white on the cheeks and nose. The hair was a bit of a struggle, since I didn't have anything close to red hair (and I wanted red hair on her). If I remember correctly I mixed Citadel mephiston red with Citadel tau light ochre as the main color, darkened it with the usual wash and some mephiston in darker places, and highlighted it with ochre.
I hope the somewhat high-contrast shines added here and there with just a simple spot of white are bearable. This is quite characteristic for my whole army - when they're all together they got this "comic book" kind of look - in my view at least.

Rany, zajęło mi to trochę czasu prawda? Mój błąd, mam nadzieję że posty będą się teraz pojawiać znacznie częściej. Przejdźmy do rzeczy. Chciałbym pokazać wam moje podejście do Commander Shadowsun. Figurka sama w sobie jest całkiem fajna jak na finecastowy "remake".
Zbroja XV22 pani Shadowsun była miłym wyzwaniem. Z racji jej dość małych rozmiarów i ilości detali głównie decydowałem się na używanie nylonowych pędzli Mag-Pol o rozmiarze 0 i 1. Tym razem (choć nie jest to mój faworyt) za podkład posłużył mi czarny aerozol Vallejo Black. Muszę przyznać, że byłem dość zadowolony z efektu, powierzchnia była pokryta równą, dość gładką warstwą. Następnie nałożyłem (nie dostępny już) Citadel scab red jako podstawową warstwę koloru i niedługo po tym pokryłem figurkę niewielką warstwą washa Citadel nuln oil. W następnym kroku zacząłem uwydatniać niektóre powierzchnie scab red'em i rozjaśniłem rogi (raz jeszcze nie dostępnym) Citadel blood red'em.
Zdecydowałem się na model głowy bez hełmu, licząc na to, że niebieska skóra Tau doda nieco dynamiki do kompozycji kolorystycznej (no i dla tego, że włosy wyglądały super). Tak więc, jak u wszystkich moich Tau, użyłem Citadel hoeth blue jako podstawy, położyłem wspomnianego wcześniej washa i nieco hoeth'a zmieszanego z Citadel skull white na policzki i nos. Z włosami miałem nieco problemu, głownie dla tego że uparłem się na rudy kolor, a nie miałem nic co na takiej powierzchni wyglądało by na rudy. Jeśli dobrze pamiętam, zmieszałem Citadel mephiston red z Citadel tau light ochre jako jako główny kolor, zaciemniłem je washem i mephistonem w głębszych miejscach i rozjaśniłem ochre'em.
Mam nadzieję że te dość silnie kontrastowe błyski dodane za pomocą maźnięcia białym są znośne. To dość charakterystyczna cecha dla całej mojej armii - kiedy stoją razem, mają w sobie coś z komiksowej grafiki - przynajmniej w moich oczach.
